2026 Mini Grants For Contributors
We have an exciting line up of diverse projects for 2026.
Black History Month – Black Writers and Journalist Workshop is a volunteer-run website and training program dedicated to the Black American and African Diaspora experience. BWJW is accepting pitches on Black History in the United States. We’re commissioning paid projects that cover articles featuring interviews with community trailblazers and civil rights advocates, little-known historical events, essays on culture and memory preservation in contemporary America, photography essays and short-form historical fiction.
Themes that touch on cultural preservation, art, freedom, tech, solidarity, sovereignty and generational legacies are highly encouraged.
New York Archives – We’re looking for writers who can unearth Black stories from New York, spanning hip hop, the Great Migration, the immigrant experience, and the legacy of Harlem Renaissance, exchanges and encounters between diasporas and modern civil rights and social movements in the city.
Mini Grants Reporting Projects – These grants are designed to provide a minimum of $250 to support a short-term, reporting project with coaching from a journalism professional and writing career mentor via 30-minute weekly sessions of support for up to four weeks, with the possibility of co-publication with a local newspaper, digital media or civic organization. The Black Writers and Journalists Workshop – is a small volunteer-run, donation-based project designed to train and support emerging authors and editors. Our mission is to educate and inform Black audiences, the general public and policymakers, publishing vibrant, deeply reported stories reflecting the everyday lives and realities of African Americans and Black diaspora communities.
